We had a wonderful stay at the Borghetto. Wonderful location, the tastefully furnished and very comfortable houses, the kitchen equipped with everything like at home and not as often happens in a rented house. Donatella who welcomed us was very kind and helpful. Upon arrival, they make you find everything you need so you don't have to run straight to the supermarket. Suffice it to say that we no longer wanted to leave to go home. Read More…

Beautiful authentic house in a beautiful location.
The house surpassed the already very nice photos. The kitchen is super equipped. We were very kindly welcomed by Donatella who gave us a full tour and some tips for the area and was easily accessible in case of questions. There was a cover with everything you needed to know (of working devices, restaurants and places of interest in the area), very well organized. Read More…

Calm, space, views and serenity
The photos are beautiful ... well, the property too !!! Very large lot, not a neighbor on the horizon, a variety of places and views. Large house very comfortable and well equipped. Two charming little houses. The olive trees bordering the swimming pool make it a very pleasant space. Thanks to Donatella for her pleasant welcome and her availability. And congratulations to the owners for their beautiful layout of the property. Read More…

Welcome break
There were 10 of us in total split amongst three buildings which meant we were not on top of each other all the time. Well-furnished and appointed. Great garden and pool. Superb support from the owner and site manager during the time of COVID-19. Highly recommended. Read More…

Butterflies and gentle breeze

What an absolute privilege to be here again. This year we have had fabulous weather, a couple of big thunderstorms whilst evening dinner was cooking and then hot days and sunshine, just perfect. The Yoga deck is an absolute winner, gorgeous views of the lake, masses of butterflies and a gentle breeze. A little slice of paradise, forever grateful. Read More…

Falling stars and the milky way

Thank you for a beautiful retreat from our first night to our last dip in the pool. Highlights would be lunch at Vascos (that lunch! John will be talking about it for years), a late night meeting with a family of wild boars (some deer and the geckos) and magical stargazing from the driveway, falling stars and the milky way. We hope to return. Read More…

Truly splendid place

Borghetto Calcinaia is a truly splendid place. A first for all of us and we hope the first of many future visits. We have feasted on great food and savoured the sights and sounds of birds, butterflies and enjoyed the pool. Somehow we have also managed to fit in the concert programme of the Anghiari Southbank Sinfonia Festival. Read More…

A slice of heaven on earth

Thank you so much for such a wonderful 1st visit to Tuscany. It was a week we will never forget. The property is magnificent from the lake views to the gardens, the lodgings and the pool. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. We were so lucky to find this place for our whole family – 10 total – to spend a week together, celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. Read More…

Beautiful house in rural Tuscany

Dennis and Gilly who own this property are wonderful. Even before we had arrived I had asked many questions, some requiring them to research things for us but nothing was too much trouble. We arrived late but they were both there to greet us and to help us settle in.
Although they live just next door they were never intrusive but always had a friendly word to say should we see each other.
The main house is magnificent, with just about everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. Whilst there I was also shown the other 2 smaller properties and they are equally well furnished.
The pool and grounds at our disposal were well kept and clean and regular visits from their inquisitive dog were welcome. Read More…

Pure Tuscan Magic

I doubt I can find words to do justice this beautiful place and the kindness and hospitality of Gilly and Dennis. I stayed four nights with my wife as part of an organised yoga holiday. The house is all stunning stonework and marble with exposed wooden beams. The views of fields, forests and most of all the nearby lake were exquisite, and the garden itself felt magical--landscaped yet unregimented, fulsome yet not overwhelming. Our visit was lucky enough to coincide with the annual appearance of fireflies in the evenings, in case final confirmation was needed that this was a truly magical place.
Gilly and Dennis were generous with their time, with information about the history of the farm and its buildings as well as about the local area. They are extremely knowledgable about the whole surrounding area of Tuscany and Umbria: they can tell point you to the best rustic country restaurants, bars and eateries with fantastic views, as well as medieval villages and the larger towns throughout the area. Perfect Tuscany villa for a once in a lifetime trip!!

My husband and I and two other couples stayed for a week in the beautiful home of Dennis and Gilly. The pictures do not do the farmhouse justice. Beautiful views from all windows, impeccable furnishings, and a pool to do for!! We loved the big country kitchen for cooking our dinners with the fresh food we found each day at the local butchers. Our first night we had a lovely delicious home cooked Tuscan dinner by Gilly with great wine included!! It was like coming home. The location is very convenient to lovely walled towns around the area - especially Anghiari and Assisi!! Dennis and Gilly were a fount of information and so welcoming. We are going back!! Lovely home and setting - and the owners made it a fabulous stay!

My wife and I stayed at Borghetto Calcinaia for more than a week in late October / early November. We enjoyed it immensely and couldn’t recommend it highly enough! The location is very convenient to area sightseeing, situated between Anghiari (8 minutes drive) and San Sepolcro (maybe 12 minutes), suitable for day trips to Citta di Castello, Arezzo, Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio and Urbino (all of which deserve at least a day trip). Don’t miss the closest - the medieval town of Anghiari — which is a largely untouched small town with few tourists. We also drove 5 minutes to start a nice walk on a gravel road along the Tiber River that feeds the lake. There is other hiking available in the area, too. The historic buildings have been beautifully rehabbed for modern living. The main guest house has a fully equipped kitchen with a full-size fridge, powerful gas cooktop and electric oven, and dishwasher, as well as a very good supply of pots, pans, and cooking gear, which we happily used daily as we prefer to cook our own meals.
