Carol & Mark (Hove, U.K.)

My partner and I were looking for somewhere quiet and scenic in Tuscany to stay but close enough to Tuscan towns to provide us with restaurants and entertainment. Our search took us to Borghetto Calcinia where we stayed in The Apartment and we were not disappointed. The accommodation was beautifully Tuscan, very comfortable and had clearly been professionally cleaned. We had everything we needed from a welcome basket, all the cooking facilities and a comfortable bed to rest our heads after a long day of site seeing. There was a perfect terrace where we sat most mornings enjoying our breakfast and the fabulous views of the Lake Montidoglio. We opted for a meal on arrival cooked by Gilly, which I would highly recommend. The food was delicious, very traditional and in my view deserving of Michelin Stars. Both Dennis and Gilly had a great knowledge of the local areas directing us to fantastic places to see and suggesting the best restaurants. With Dennis’ help we booked train tickets on line to visit the fabulous city of Florence. We had hired a car and with a short drive to Arezzo (also a great place to visit) we were on a train and in to Florence within about an hour and a half. My partner was keen to try some Italian wines and at our request Dennis organised for us to visit a vineyard, Santa Vittoria and we had the best day. The manager was very friendly and spoke very good English and we came away having bought some Italian wines all packaged and shipped back home for a very reasonable price. Borghetto Calcinia was the perfect place to stay and enjoy time to rest and relax I would highly recommend it. In fact this year we are planning a trip back to stay in the farmhouse with our family.
